The Abia State PDP 2023 governorship candidate, Chief Okey Ahiwe has addressed PDP faithful in the State as the party held its first general meeting following the Supreme Court judgement of Friday, January 12, 2024.
During the meeting which held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at the State PDP Secretariat, Finbarr’s Road, Umuahia, Chief Ahiwe thanked God, the party leaders, members and the PDP legal team for their unalloyed support during the 2023 gubernatorial elections and the protracted legal battle from the Elections Petition Tribunal to the Supreme Court.
In his words, “I am grateful to God for sustaining all of us during the challenging period of eletions last year and through the post-election legal processes that ended with the Supreme Court judgement. I have since accepted the Supreme Court verdict in good faith as it represents, in my perspective, a fleeting moment of history beyond which I see greater prospects for the future. I therefore urge all members of the Abia PDP family, including my supporters across party lines, not to be demoralized but to stay united and focused on the task of building a more prosperous Abia as we study unfolding events and work together in the best interests of the State.”
Chief Ahiwe said that the task of repositioning the party for future prospects had already commenced and called on all members to put the past behind and refresh their commitment to the party to enable it harness greater opportunities ahead. He called on all Abians, irrespective of political affiliations, to see themselves as mutual partners with the mandate to help sustain peace and security in the State.
Earlier in his speech, the State PDP Chairman, Dr. Allwell Asiforo Okere congratulated Chief Ahiwe and his running mate, Dr. Jasper Uche, Distinguished Senator Austin Akobundu (representing Abia Central Senatorial Zone), Hon. Chris Nkwonta, all PDP members of the Abia State House of Assembly and other PDP candidates in the 2023 general elections for their dogged struggles during the elections and victories they achieved for the party.
Also, in their various speeches, Senator Austin Akobundu, Hon. Chris Nkwonta (represented by Rt. Hon. Emeka Stanley), Hon. Solomon Akpulonu, Hon. Chinwe Nwanganga, Rt. Hon. Uzor Azubuike, Dr. Eme Okoro and Ugoeze Lady Kate Onyemachi thanked members of the party for their unflinching loyalty and called for a diagnostic evaluation of the party’s performance in the last elections, as well as its strengths, weaknesses and opportunities in the days ahead.
