The Abia State Commissioner of Police, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie has reassured Abians of the strong commitment of the State Police Command under his watch to continue to ensure adequate security of lives and property in the State.

CP Onwuemelie gave the reassurance when the leadership of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Abia State Chapter paid him a courtesy visit at the Senior Police Officers Mess, Umuahia on Monday, July 7, 2023. While emphasizing that the State Police Command is open to partnerships that would help sustain peace and security in the State, the CP called for mutual cooperation between Ohaneze Ndigbo Abia State Chapter and the State Police Command, especially in pursuit of community policing objectives compliant with the smart policing strategies of the Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, PhD.

Earlier in his speech, the President of Ohaneze Ndigbo Abia State Chapter, Comrade Okey Paul Nwankwo congratulated CP Onwuemelie on his recent appointment as Abia State CP, and welcomed him warmly to the State on behalf of Ohaneze Ndigbo.

Comrade Nwankwo informed that Ohaneze Ndigbo is well-grounded across the 17 Local Government Areas of the State, with a numerical strength of not less than 17, 000 registered members. He therefore assured of the capacity of Ohaneze Ndigbo Abia State Chapter to partner effectively with the State Police Command, not only in community policing but in other crucial areas towards sustainable peace and security in the State.

Senior Officers of the Abia State Police Command including the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Maureen Chinaka, members of the State Executive Council of Ohaneze Ndigbo Abia State Chapter, Chairmen of Local Government Chapters of Ohaneze Ndigbo, and media executives were among those present at the event.
