The All Progressives Congress candidate for the Ukwa East/West Federal Constituency in the 2027 House of Representatives election, Chief Samuel Okezie Nwogu, has described the outcome of the 2015 general election in Ukwa West as a collective decision of the Peoples Democratic Party stakeholders at the time.
Nwogu stated this during a consultative meeting with members of the Asa Liberation Movement, where he addressed concerns surrounding the outcome of the 2015 election and called on political stakeholders to put the past behind them and work together for the development of the constituency.
He explained that although he was the PDP leader in Ukwa West at the time, his responsibility was to deliver the party’s candidate, stressing that the decision was collectively taken by party leaders and members across the local government.
According to him, the party won the election, while the stakeholders worked together to achieve the outcome across the 10 wards in Ukwa West.
“What played out in the 2015 elections was our collective decision to deliver our party following directives from the party’s national leadership. As a leader of the party in the local government at the time, I take full responsibility.
“But let it be clear that it was a collective decision to deliver the party, and nobody was killed. It was purely politics,” Nwogu said.
The APC candidate also dismissed what he described as propaganda against him over the 2015 election, saying the issue was being used to undermine his credibility ahead of the 2027 National Assembly election.
He urged political actors and supporters to focus on the future rather than dwelling on past political disagreements.
Nwogu further disclosed that he had worked hard to secure what he described as an “Asa ticket”, which he said was initially difficult to obtain.
He said the ticket should be regarded as an opportunity for the people of Asa to unite and pursue development-oriented representation at the National Assembly.
“This is our victory. I have returned this ticket to you so we can all go to Abuja and deliver the real dividends of democracy to our people.
He, however, appealed to the people of Asa especially,those who are disenchanted because of the outcome of the 2015 election to sheath their sword and embrace peace and unity for the betterment of Ukwa.
