The Abia State PDP 2023 governorship candidate, Chief Okey Ahiwe has paid tributes to the memory of former Vice-Chancellor of Abia State University and erstwhile PDP gubernatorial flag bearer, late Professor Uchenna Eleazar Ikonne whose shocking demise occurred on this date exactly a year ago as announced by his son, Dr. Chike Uche Ikonne.

Describing the late Professor Ikonne as an academic colossus, trailblazer and exemplary statesman, Chief Ahiwe said that “Prof Ikonne was a legendary Nigerian patriot who gave his very best to humanity as a thoroughbred educationist, humanist and refined politician whose trajectory across various stations of life, and his most unexpected demise at a time when we earnestly yearned for his leadership at a more exalted level, enriches our heritage of courage, humility and submission to the ultimate will of God from whose sovereign authority we derive our transient power of earthly dominion as humans.”

Chief Ahiwe while advocating that formal steps be taken to immortalize Professor Ikonne, charged Abians, especially those that were his close associates to honour his memory by upholding and propagating the sterling values that underscore his indelible footprints.

He prayed that God would continue to comfort the Ikonne Family and grant the soul of Professor Uchenna Ikonne eternal rest in His bosom.
