The Abia State Chapter of the African Action Congress (AAC) has demanded access to the report of the Forensic Audit on Abia State financial transactions under the administration of former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, which Governor Alex Otti recently claimed to have received from a forensic audit firm he engaged to look into Abia accounts for the period.
This was contained in a letter to the Secretary to the Government of Abia State dated 26th April 2024, signed by the Abia State Chairman of AAC, Comrade Ezumaibe Kelechukwu and made available to the media.
The said letter with the subject, ‘Application for Access to Records Under the Sections 1 and 3 of the Freedom of Information Act’, also requested for other documents related to the Forensic Audit Report.
A copy of the letter is attached herewith:
It would be recalled that Governor Alex Otti had on Friday, April 19 2024 at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies in the USA, delivered a speech during which he disclosed that a forensic audit has revealed how the administration of Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu allegedly embezzled huge sums of money through payments for non-existent contracts and an airport project.
Abians, pro-democracy and human rights groups have since been asking the Governor to provide the forensic audit report, which, as at the time of filing this report, was yet to be made public.
