The Board of Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON), Nigeria’s biggest copyright collective management organization, rose from its meeting of June 6 with a decision that a red-carpet tribute night be held at the magnificent COSON House in Ikeja in honour of the recently deceased frontline musician and staunch member of COSON, Chris Mba of “Baby Don’t Cry” fame. The Board also directed that all flags at COSON House fly at half mast during the funeral of the fallen hero.
COSON has been informed that the funeral will take place on August 25 and 26 in Chris Mba’s hometown of Umuhuaba in Obingwa L.G.A. of Abia State. The tribute night, a night of great music, is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 19, the weekend before the funeral, so that family, friends, fans and loved ones can fully participate.
Chris Mba is reported to have died at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital on Wednesday, May 3, 2023.
Reacting to the passing of the beloved singer, COSON Chairman, Chief Tony Okoroji, said “I am beyond sad at the loss of my colleague and friend, Chris Mba, a great musician, whose contribution to the repositioning of the Highlife sound is unquestionable. Not too long ago, I visited Chris at his Surulere home with the great Richard Cole, my colleague on the COSON Board. We went to share camaraderie with him upon his ill health and offer whatever support we could. His death is devastating but we are consoled by the fact that as a great artiste, he left great songs which we continue to sing and dance to. Our heartfelt condolences go to his family, friends and numerous fans”.
